Barbara Steinman, O.D., Ph.D., Crazy Cat Lady
Barbara Steinman received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 1983 and her Ph.D. in Vision Science from the University of Missouri in 1996. Dr. Steinman worked as a research associate at the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute. Dr. Steinman is the author of one textbook, as well as several book chapters and articles on vision science. She is an acccomplished computer artist and statistician.
Scott Steinman, O.D., Ph.D., Evil Genius and Nice Guy
Scott Steinman received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the State University of New York College of Optometry in 1981, where he graduated with honors. His Ph.D. in Physiological Optics (Vision Science) was completed at the University of Houston in 1989, and his post-doctoral studies were conducted at the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute. Dr. Steinman is the author of two textbooks, several book chapters and dozens of articles on topics ranging from vision science to computer programming. He is currently a full Professor teaching courses in vision science at the Southern College of Optometry and (as of 10/08) Chair of the Diplomate Program in Electrodiagnostics of the American Academy of Optometry, as well as the past Chair of the Vision Science Section of the American Academy of Optometry and the Informatics SIG of the Associations of Schools and Colleges of Optometry. Dr. Steinman has developed computer software since 1982 in a dozen computer languages and has served as a programming consultant to several companies and research labs. His projects have included the infant vision clinic at the Washington University School of Medicine, software for topographic mapping of multichannel visual evoked potentials, software for clinical testing of neurological patients, and seventy educational applications for teaching vision science. He is also an illustrator and cartoonist, and plays the tenor recorder, shakuhachi and synthesizers.
